Mochi Making Experience: Create Traditional Japanese Sweets
What Your Child Will Do (Step-by-Step)
1. Welcome & Introduction (10 min)
Your child will meet the instructor and be introduced to mochi—what it is, when it’s eaten, and why it’s an important part of Japanese celebrations.
2. Ingredients & Preparation (10 min)
They’ll explore the simple ingredients used to make mochi and learn how each one contributes to its unique texture and taste.
3. Mochi Making Demonstration (15 min)
The instructor will demonstrate how mochi is made, showing traditional techniques and explaining each step in an easy-to-follow way.
4. Hands-On Mochi Making (30 min)
With guidance, your child will shape and create their own mochi. They’ll experience the soft, stretchy texture and learn how to handle it properly.
5. Filling & Decorating (20 min)
Children will fill their mochi with sweet ingredients (such as red bean paste or other flavors) and finish them with simple, creative touches.
6. Enjoy & Share (10–15 min)
They’ll enjoy the mochi they made and, if they like, share with others in the group—just as sweets are often shared in Japan.
